I Tried Pamela Anderson's G-String Updo Hack: See Photos

Don't Worry, We Put Pamela Anderson's G-String Hair Hack to the Test

  • Pamela Anderson recently revealed her hack for the perfect updo.
  • All you need to achieve her signature look is a G-string.
  • One editor tested the trick and is sharing her results.

Pamela Anderson is full of fun surprises. The actor has inspired many iconic beauty looks, but one of her most recognisable is her tousled updo. Her signature hairstyle, which has since been dubbed the "Pam Anderson updo," has been re-created and worn by celebrities like Becky G, Sabrina Carpenter, and even Ciara. I've even tried re-creating a similar look myself — but apparently, all of us were missing the secret ingredient: a G-string. (Yes, I'm talking about the underwear.)

Anderson recently did a "What's in My Bag" interview with British Vogue in which, among a fan that she says she uses for hot flushes and a CBD oil that she uses for her arthritis, she pulls out a baby pink G-string. Looking at the camera, Anderson says, "Don't know why I have a G-string in my purse, but don't tell me that you don't have a scrunchie. This is the trick of the trade. We're really flashing back to the '90s. The tousled updo always had a pair of panties in them."

Even though I watched her tie up her hair with the underwear with my own two eyes, I wasn't sure if Anderson was joking or completely serious about the underwear trick, but I was determined to find out. To test her hack, all I did was pop over to my underwear drawer and grab a black G-string, then head over to the bathroom mirror.

I gathered my hair into a ponytail at the top of my head using just my hands, and then took the underwear, wrapped it around my hand three times into a sort of makeshift hair tie, and started wrapping it around my hair. When everything was wrapped twice, I pulled two front pieces out for the ultimate '90s look and was shocked to find that it worked surprisingly well. I had to do a little shuffling to move the white tag that was visibly showing, but other than that, it worked.

Of course, I didn't look as good as Anderson did (who does?), but I wore my G-string hair for a few hours while working and it held steady with no issues. Although I don't typically carry an extra pair of underwear in my bag, I might just need to start.
