In 2020, Deutch got a detailed matzah ball soup inked on her inner right ankle. While at first glance it might seem like a tribute to the actor's Jewish roots, the actor disclosed the meaning (as well as the hilarious mishap) behind the interesting piece during her latest sit-down chat with Jimmy Kimmel. "A couple of years ago, I was really into soups, and I got a matzah ball soup tattooed on my ankle," she said.
While emphasising that she doesn't regret the ink, Deutch then offered a window into the unforeseen problem she noticed only after getting the tattoo. "I will always love soup, so I don't regret it for a second, but I wanted it to be steaming hot soup instead of lukewarm soup because who likes lukewarm soup? No one. And the steam just sort of looks like hair." Deutch also shared her mother and actress Lea Thompson's first reaction to seeing the design, "My mom was like, "Oh, that makes sense that you got that because when I was in labour with you, I had Greenblatt's matzah ball soup."
