Gwyneth Paltrow Beams About Her Marriage: "Sometimes Life Just Surprises You"
It's been half a year since Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk married in an intimate ceremony at their home in the Hamptons, and the actress-turned-entrepreneur seems smitten. In a recent interview with the Today show, Gwyneth gushed over her marriage, but also reflected on her high-profile split from Chris Martin in 2014.

When asked if she had originally envisioned herself remarrying, Gwyneth said she hadn't necessarily planned on it. "I never thought one way or the other. I really didn't. I guess if you had asked me a couple years ago, I probably would've leaned towards not getting married again," she said. Her sentiment seemingly changed when Brad proposed in 2017 after three years of dating. Gwyneth added, "Sometimes life just surprises you. It's been really fun. I'm so happy that I was given this other opportunity."
Gwyneth has also maintained an amicable relationship with her ex-husband after the two famously "consciously uncoupled." In fact, following her engagement, Gwyneth referred to Chris and Brad as her "modern family" in a touching Instagram post. Gwyneth told Today, "We really made the commitment to maintaining the family, even though we weren't going to be a couple." Adding, "Chris and I have made a commitment to continue to love the things about each other that we've always loved, and continue to develop our friendship and find ways to continue to communicate."
That being said, it wasn't always easy. Gwyneth explained, "You really have to focus on forgiveness. Spite that comes up — you have to let it go. It's definitely not effortless . . . Five years later, it's pretty good, but the first couple of years, it was very effortful." As for how they made it work, Gwyneth said maybe someday she'll put in a book.
