JoJo Siwa Celebrates 1-Year Anniversary Since Coming Out: "I've Felt More Love Than Ever"
It's been an entire year since JoJo Siwa came out as a proud member of the LGBTQ community. So, naturally, the 18-year-old Dancing With the Stars finalist took to social media to commemorate her one-year anniversary on Jan. 23. "🏳️🌈In the last 365 days I've felt more love than ever. A year ago today I posted this picture and shared with the world that I was gay🌈" she shared on Instagram alongside a carousel of related photos and videos. "I get asked a lot 'was coming out scary for you'… and the answer is yes of course, anything that's different about you is scary, however… it's what makes me… me. so I had no fear with sharing it with the world❤️"
She continued: "I also get asked a lot 'your demographic is so young are you worried about telling kids your gay'…. Truthfully I feel like I was put on this earth to be a role model for kids, and letting all the kids of the world know that loving everyone for who they are no matter what is something that I will always believe in and always share❤️ please never forget that no matter who you are, what you look like, who you LOVE that you are absolutely perfect. thank you for showing me the most love throughout this year and throughout my entire life. I love you all❤️🙏🏼🏳️🌈"
Last year, Siwa and Jenna Johnson, made history as the first same-sex dancing couple on DWTS when the show returned for its 30th season. "I think it breaks a wall that's never been broken down before," she told Entertainment Weekly at the time of the competition. "And it's normal for a girl to dance with a guy, and I think that that's really cool, but I think that it's really special that not only now, do I get to share with the world you get to love who you want to love, but also, you get to dance with who you want to dance with." A couple weeks prior, Siwa made her red carpet debut with her then-girlfriend Kylie Prew.
