Near the end of season three, we get a flashback to Aleida sending Daya to Summer camp for "city kids," because she really just wants to get her out of the house. When she goes tot pick her up, it becomes apparent that Aleida really missed Daya and was jealous of the connections Daya formed with the counsellors and other kids. When they get home, Aleida throws away all of Daya's artwork.
