The actors marked their two-year anniversary in November 2019, confirming that they met when Trensch began rehearsals to join the Broadway cast of Dear Evan Hansen in late 2017. Trensch replaced Tony winner Ben Platt in the title role, and Ross had been understudying all three male roles in the show since its opening.
