On his first encounter with Teigen: "When we first met, we were both seeing other people at the time, so for a little while in the beginning we weren't really committed to each other," he recalled to A Drink With. "After we met, I left to go on tour in Europe. At first we just texted a lot and saw each other rarely, but when we did see one another, the sparks flew."
On when he knew Teigen was the one: "I wasn't like, 'This is the woman I'm going to marry' from day one," he told Los Angeles Confidential per Entertainment Tonight. "For me, I'm the kind of person who needs to grow into that feeling. It was probably a couple of years in when I could already see us being together forever."
On when he knew it was time to propose: "I don't think it was one particular moment, but I knew I loved her, I knew I could see myself living with her and spending time with her forever, I knew I could envision us having kids together, and I felt like it was time to propose," he said on "Oprah's Next Chapter." "She didn't pressure me, she didn't say, 'It's time to put a ring on it.' I felt like it's time for us to get married."
On not being a great partner to Teigen early in their relationship: "I think I was more selfish then," he explained on the "On Purpose with Jay Shetty" podcast. "I wasn't a great partner at the beginning of our relationship. Even though I was very into her and very excited to be with her. I was still selfish. I was in my mid-20s, still not ready to fully be the committed partner that I am now."
