Ryan Reynolds at the Wrexham FC Victory Parade

Ryan Reynolds Swapped Met Gala Glamour for the Wrexham FC Open Bus Tour

Forget Met Gala Monday, the first Tuesday in May is hereby declared: Wrexham Day. In order to celebrate the historic promotion of Wrexham FC, the football team took to the city centre for the open top bus parade along with the club's Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Thousands of fans lined the streets to watch the victory tour and celebrate the club getting promoted to the fourth division of the English Football League, as well as the women's team promotion. And Reynolds in particular was buzzing to be in the Welsh city. "The first Tuesday in May. What an unforgettable evening in Wrexham celebrating both @wrexham_afc and @wrexhamafcwomen gaining promotion and winning their leagues. BONKERS," he wrote alongside an Instagram carousel full of selfies and videos showing him amongst the crowds.

"Deadpool" actor Reynolds and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" star McElhenney bought the football club in February 2021 and have put a spotlight on the Welsh football team ever since. As well as documenting their journey in the Disney+ docuseries "Welcome to Wrexham", they are regulars in the stands of The Racecourse Ground, with Reynolds most recently visiting with his wife, Blake Lively, and their four kids. The two actors have also attracted a number of celebrity supporters including Paul Rudd, Emma Corrin, David Beckham, and Will Ferrell.

While Reynolds was popping champagne on top of the Wrexham red bus, his fellow celebrities were taking to the red carpet at the Met Gala. Reynolds was the co-chair of last year's fashion event, and wowed the crowds alongside Lively's iconic colour-changing gown. Yet, this year, his attention was elsewhere and he chose to ditch the glitz and glamour for a grittier day amongst the footie fans. "Way better than the Met," one fan commented. Another summed up the incredible impact Reynolds and McElhenney have had on the club, writing: "Thank you and Rob for everything you've done to this town (city). This year has been off the charts. You're taking football from the hooligans and giving it to the families. Making it something everyone wants to be a part of. Tonight was proof of that."
