A post shared by Michelle Obama (@michelleobama) on Feb 18, 2020 at 7:30am PST Michelle Obama transported followers to 1982 on Tuesday with a throwback prom photo from her high school days. The former First Lady has been our style icon since she became a public figure, but this "Prom Challenge" picture also shows she had fashion as a teen too. The high-slit on her pink satin polka dot dress? Legendary. Her look is so great, it inspired celebrities like Tracee Ellis Ross and Kerry Washington to share photos of their prom outfits too. These blasts from the past serve as a helpful (and timely) reminder to register to vote, too. "If you're a student or teacher, join the #PromChallenge with @WhenWeAllVote and @MTV and tell us what your school is doing to register students to vote — you could get a free prom for your school! Learn more at prom.mtv.com," Michelle, a When We All Vote co-chair, wrote in her caption. "You can also help me spread the word by posting your prom photo with #PromChallenge." According to MTV's website, up to 20 schools will be selected to receive up to $5,000 for their dream prom. If you needed an incentive to get ready to vote, this just might be it! Ahead, see how other celebrities celebrated the #PromChallenge. Tracee, we bow down to your badass high school self and that Armani ensemble. When Ashanti was style goals, and Lil Bow Wow braids defined my “type.” 🤣 . (Swipe to see our prom hair-evolution, including that time @marciahamilton the now-celebrity-stylist who used to work in my Aunt Janet’s salon gave me royal blue streaks to match my royal blue prom dress. For senior prom it was FINGERWAVES for me and a full-on blowout for him...and you couldn’t tell us NOTHIN’! 😆🤯🤦🏽♀️) . The best part of going from kid to adult was discovering a sense of AGENCY, which at the time I was most excited to express through: 1. Getting to decide how I wanted to wear my hair, and 2. Getting to VOTE. But I soon discovered what I’d been missing so when my daughter Anna was 18 I took her to the Dem Convention in ‘08. It changed her life and she’s been an activist ever since! That’s why I’m joining @whenweallvote @mtv in encouraging high school seniors to vote AND throw an unforgettable prom.
