Dolly Parton "Jolene" Acoustic Version

Dolly Parton's Stripped-Down Version of "Jolene" Will Send Actual Chills Through Your Body

We still have a few more days to go until Dumplin' comes out, but in anticipation for its release, Dolly Parton dropped a stripped-down rendition of her hit "Jolene" on YouTube on Friday. The 1973 track is featured as an acoustic version in the movie's soundtrack, and in the accompanying black-and-white video, Parton is shown singing at the mic with a full string section. "Jolene's been on the prowl a long time, but she just got a makeover and I couldn't be more excited to share the new string version with y'all!" Parton previously tweeted.

Parton was originally only supposed to write the theme song for Dumplin', but she ended up writing six songs instead. "When they first contacted me, they just wanted to licence some of my old music for the movie, and I said, 'Absolutely yes!'" Parton told Elle. "Then I got another call asking if I would write a theme song, and I said yes. Then they called back and said, 'Would you be willing to write that theme song with Linda Perry and have her produce it?' And I said yes . . . As soon as we wrote the theme song, we just went one to another, writing songs. We didn't even know if some of these would go in the movie or not."

Dumplin' is a comedy-drama based on the New York Times bestselling book by Julie Murphy and follows a "self-proclaimed fat girl" named Willowdean (Danielle Macdonald) as she goes through life under the rule of her former beauty-queen mom (Jennifer Aniston) in Texas. The movie will be available on Netflix and in select theatres on Dec. 7.
