2. Birds Of Prey

Although the Suicide Squad film was met with mixed reactions, Margot Robbie's take on Harley Quinn became pretty popular. It seems only natural that she would lead a Harley Quinn-centric spinoff. With the delightful full title Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), the film is set to focus on female superheroes Harley Quinn, Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) teaming up to save a little girl from a crime lord.

3. Bond 25

The James Bond franchise reaches a milestone with its 25th movie in 2020. Still untitled, the film will bring back Daniel Craig's 007 (plus Lea Seydoux) and his team for another adventure. Director Cary Joji Fukunaga will be another milestone for the series: the first American-born director to helm a Bond film.

4. Gambit

Channing Tatum takes on the mantle of Marvel's card-carrying mutant from Taylor Kitsch as Marvel and Fox integrate the character into the X-Men universe at last. Aside from Tatum's casting, information on the plot and characters has been kept tightly under wraps, but we're confident that the film will be a reboot, rather than continuing on in the same universe as the character's first brief appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

5. Mulan

The latest in Disney's live-action remakes of animated classics will be Mulan. While the tough heroine remains, much of the animated film will be changed significantly in this new take on the tale: notably, no Li Shang or Mushu. Liu Yifei stars as the titular heroine who takes her father's place in the army and saves all of China.

9. A Quiet Place 2

A Quiet Place 2 is as mysterious as the original was. No details, other than the return of Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, are known. We're hoping for a film as creatively creepy as the first instalment!

10. Godzilla vs Kong

The sequel to the upcoming 2019 film Godzilla: King of the Monsters is part of Warner Bros.'s "MonsterVerse," a shared film universe combining the mythos of Godzilla and King Kong. Stranger Things's Millie Bobby Brown will star as a human teenager in the midst of an epic war involving monsters, gods, and humans alike.

Release date: May 22

11. Maleficent II

In the follow-up to 2014's hero-of-another-story take on the Sleeping Beauty myth, Maleficent, the 2020 sequel will follow Maleficent and Aurora (the returning Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning) as they work to unite the human and magical realms. Other members of the original cast will return, but Prince Philip will now be played by Harris Dickinson, taking over from Brenton Thwaites.

12. Wonder Woman 1984

As the title suggests, Wonder Woman 1984 takes DC's breakout heroine and drops her in the middle of Cold War conflict, where she will face off against a new enemy, Cheetah. Director Patty Jenkins returns, along with stars Gal Gadot and Chris Pine (though the latter's role is still mysterious).

13. In The Heights

Starring A Star Is Born's Anthony Ramos, the musical follows a few crucial days in the life of a block in Washington Heights, New York.

Release date: June 26

14. Top Gun: Maverick

And the award for longest gap between a film and its sequel goes to . . . Top Gun: Maverick, which comes 34 years after the original action blockbuster's 1986 debut. Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer will return, as the film focuses on the changes in military aviation and the shift from "dogfighters" to drones.

15. Jungle Cruise

Jungle Cruise hopes to follow in the footsteps of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and turn a Disney theme park ride into a successful film. Starring Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson, the concept is transplanted to a 1930s-era quest to find a tree with magical powers.

Release date: July 24

16. Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them 3

The Fantastic Beasts saga continues with the currently untitled third instalment. Presumably, the film will follow Newt Scamander and his friends and allies as they brace against the rising tide of Grindelwald. Initially scheduled as the final movie in a trilogy, this will instead be the midpoint of a five-film saga.

17. Avatar 2

Eleven years after breaking box office records, James Cameron's Avatar sequel will finally arrive. Cameron has been talking about a sequel since 2006, long before the original even debuted, and after years in development, it's scheduled for a 2020 bow. The entire original cast will return in an as-yet-unknown story.

18. Sherlock Holmes 3

Reviving the long-hibernating Robert Downey Jr./Jude Law Sherlock Holmes franchise, the third film will reunite the duo several years down the line after a long separation. The cast is also rumoured to include Rachel McAdams, whose character was seemingly written out in 2011's A Game Of Shadows.

19. Guardians Of The Galaxy 3

Pretty much the only thing we know about the third Guardians movie is that it exists, since any details would presumably spoil large swathes of the upcoming Avengers: Endgame. Following the departure of James Gunn, however, the film may end up on hold for even longer than that; an exact release date is no longer available.

20. Barbie

After several false starts and departing stars (including Anne Hathaway), the first live-action Barbie film is underway for a tentative 2020 release. The plot will reportedly follow Barbie, expelled from the picture-perfect realm of dolls for being imperfect, as she journeys into the real world.
