Where Is the Derry Girls Mural Located?

Yes, You Can Visit the Derry Girls Mural You Keep Seeing All Over Instagram

On the side of Badger's Bar and Restaurant in Derry, Northern Ireland, you'll find the Instagram-famous Derry Girls mural. Located at 18 Orchard Street in the city centre, the larger-than-life wall art features the cast of the hit comedy, which follows a group of five high school students — Erin Quinn, Orla McCool, Clare Devlin, Michelle Mallon, and James Maguire — navigating adolescence in the early-1990s, amid The Troubles in Northern Ireland.

Inspired by the tradition of spray-painted murals in Derry, the Derry Girls mural was commissioned by Channel 4 and created by the Derry-based, not-for-profit social enterprise group, UV Arts, to promote the second season of the show and celebrate its success in the local community. The much-loved sitcom has been praised for its clever, raw, and playful depiction of how the teens deal (or don't deal) with the realities of British Army checkpoints, armed police, and "peace walls," all while trying to grow up.

"Everybody in the city is happy about it. It's very good for tourism and it tells a story of something that is good about our city," the former Derry City F.C. chairman, Mr McDaid told the Derry Journal when asked about his thoughts on the mural. "It's great that it is there for people passing by in the town and those going down Orchard Street in the car and the bus, and I'm delighted to see it's part of the tours now in the city."

Thanks to Netflix (where you can re-watch seasons 1 and 2), the show's popularity continues to rise as it reaches an international audience who can't seem to get enough the lovable group of girls (and James), either. With season 3 set to begin filming next year, the massive mural is here to stay, and it's an absolute must-see.
