The Cast of Netflix’s "The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself" Reveal Their Dream Superpowers

If you're in search of your new Netflix binge, look no further than "The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself". Set firmly in the fantasy genre, and perfectly timed for Halloween, it follows 16-year-old Nathan (played by "Titans" actor Jay Lycurgo) who is the illegitimate son of the world's most dangerous witch, as he is caught between two warring clans of witches. The 8-part series, based on the "Half Bad" trilogy of books by Sally Green, is full of magic, gore, romance, and witty British humour that makes it one hell of a watch.

Annalise (played by Nadia Parkes) is Nathan's love interest, while Gabriel (played by Emilien Vekemans) is the French witch appointed to help him escape those who want to do him harm, including his cruel sister Jessica (played by Isobel Jesper Jones). Fans of "The Vampire Diaries" and "Shadow and Bone", in particular, are likely to have their fantasy fix fulfilled.

"What drew me to the series the most was reading a show that can hold absolutely everything and fall into a fantasy genre," Parkes tells POPSUGAR. "It holds romance and humour and dark and gore and grittiness and heartbreak and love and identity. And it all comes under the umbrella of a fantasy show which, you know, previously I might not have believed that could actually happen. I wasn't really a fantasy buff and [writer] Joe Barton has completely converted me."

In this world, witches gain their powers at the age of 17, with each having a different type of magic. It's in no short supply in the show with everything from turning into other humans on a whim to ripping others bodies apart. But what would the central cast choose if they could have any power in real life? "Teleportation is definitely the thing I would do," Lycurgo reveals to POPSUGAR. "I do love the idea of just being able to go anywhere at any time I want, even if it's just for a second."

Parkes has clearly thought long and hard about her power. "I think I would stop time", she says. "That comes from being 16 in my GCSEs and not knowing the answer to any of the questions and just wishing that I could stop time. Then go and steal the answers off the cleverest girl in the class and then go back to my desk as if it had never happened."

Vekemans chooses shapeshifting, and considers Ryan Gosling or Leonardo DiCaprio as his targets to morphe into, while Jones, who is also set to star in the new "Hunger Games" prequel, "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes", would turn into Beyoncé. A girl after our own heart.
