Celebrity Cameos in Dickinson

Apple TV+'s Dickinson Has Some Pretty Unusual Celebrity Cameos — Here's the List

Apple TV+'s Dickinson is an irreverent, quirky take on the life of Emily Dickinson, and the celebrity cameos are just as unexpected. This definitely isn't your typical historical drama — it might have the costumes and the setting, but the style is much more modern and anachronistic. That's what allows for some of the hilarious, odd cameos throughout the first seasons, including comedians as literary figures and a rapper as the personification of death itself. As Dickinson's premiere season debuts as part of Apple TV+'s first batch of shows on Nov. 1, take a look at some of the famous figures you can expect to see pop up as guest stars.

John Mulaney as Henry David Thoreau

Mulaney appears as Thoreau, who's famous for his book about a simple life in nature, Walden, and for his essay "Civil Disobedience."

Wiz Khalifa as Death

The rapper plays a literal embodiment of Death, complete with a dapper black top hat. Dickinson had a famously morbid obsession with death throughout her life and writings, so the character is essentially a way of anthropomorphising her literary themes — pretty cool!

Zosia Mamet as Louisa May Alcott

The Girls alum plays a parody version of Alcott, who's best known as the author of Little Women. Alcott and Dickinson were, in fact, contemporaries (only two years apart in age), but were not known to run in the same circles in real life.

Jason Mantzoukas

Mantzoukas's cameo is a little on the unusual side. Instead of appearing onscreen himself, his cameo is voice only — as a talking bee (yes, as in a talking insect) that Emily Dickinson hallucinates at one point.
