Jay Ellis on Working With Couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco

Jay Ellis Discusses Filming Romantic Scenes With Alison Brie as Her Husband Dave Franco Directed

Jay Ellis had some some awkward moments while filming his latest, "Somebody That I Used to Know." During an appearance on "The Kelly Clarkson Show" on Feb. 1, the actor spoke about filming romantic scenes with his costar Alison Brie while in the presence of her husband Dave Franco, who directed the rom-com. "You know, it's awkward," Ellis said while laughing.

Ellis went on to describe a scene he'll "never forget" in which his character, Sean, spends the night with Brie's character, Ally, and they watch the sunrise together seated next to each other. Ellis said, "And Dave's like, 'Jay, you can scoot a little closer?'" He added, "I'm like, 'Are you sure? It feels like we're really close, Dave. It feels like I'm really close to your wife.'" Despite some of that awkwardness that might've come from working with the power couple, who also cowrote the film, Ellis had nothing but nice things to say. "They're both amazing. They're so cool and easy," Ellis said.

Brie and Franco got married in 2017 following a proposal that nearly went wrong in 2015. In addition to working on "Somebody I Used to Know," the couple previously appeared together in "The Disaster Artist" and "The Little Hours." Brie also acted in Franco's directorial debut, "The Rental," in 2020. Ellis, meanwhile, married his longtime girlfriend Nina Senicar in Tuscany in 2022.

Centreed around exes reconnecting in their hometown, "Somebody I Used to Know" hits Prime Video on Feb. 10. Watch Ellis share more behind-the-scenes tidbits, and discuss his personal life, in the full talk-show clip above.
