Kelly Clarkson Sings Monster Mash Video

Kelly Clarkson Smashes Halloween With a Rock Cover of "Monster Mash"

No one nails a cover like Kelly Clarkson, but the singer and talk show host may have outdone herself with her 31 Oct. performance. To celebrate Halloween, Clarkson covered "Monster Mash" by Bobby Pickett. But this was no simple cover. Clarkson reimagined the song as rock and roll banger. Her show's stage was also transformed, turning into a spooky campsite. Clarkson plays a ghoul intent on bringing havoc and chaos down on some unsuspecting campers.

Clarkson also broke down the creepy forest set and explained that they filmed the song "like a music video." Her band dressed as different spooky Halloween creatures, including zombies, ghouls, and vampires. "I'm kind of like a Stevie Nicks ghost," Clarkson said of her own costume.

Every episode of "The Kelly Clarkson" show features the "American Idol" winner doing an electrifying cover. Sometimes, she teams up with the show's guest for an iconic duet. On 11 Oct., she and Sam Smith sang her own song, "Breakway," during the show. And on 17 Oct., she paired up with Dwayne Johnson to sing a country duet in honour of Loretta Lynn.

Since "The Kelly Clarkson Show" premiered in 2019, Clarkson has made sure to instill music into every episode. Usually, the songs she sings during an episode are requested specifically by fans, and she and her team try to make sure the requester ends up in the audience that day. Her covers have become so popular that, in June 2022, she released a "Kellyoke" EP featuring six songs, including her rendition of Billie Eilish's "Happier Than Ever."

Clarkson's Halloween covers have also become a tradition. In 2019, she sang "I Put a Spell on You" complete with "Hocus Pocus" costumes. The next year, she covered "Stayin' Alive" and dressed as Meryl Streep in "Death Becomes Her." And for 2021, she sang "Ghostbusters," complete with the iconic jumpsuit costumes.
