Kirk Franklin is 100 percent right about the vibes right now, and, as he said, it's OK! The gospel musician took us to church early Thursday morning with his debut on NPR's concert series — and we mean that in the best way possible. If you were ever a Black choir kid in your youth, you're about to be hit by a welcoming wave of nostalgia! The famed choir director set up his three-person band and six-person choir in an Arlington, Texas studio named Uncle Jessie's Kitchen after a long-time close friend and filled the air with the familiar notes of some of his greatest hits. You don't have to tell me that you instantly started snapping your fingers after that first "Whoa!" of the joyous "Love Theory," I know you did. And I don't need to see you to know that you were throwing out jazz hands and bopping along to the chorus of "I Smile." I know you were.
