Adrian Dunbar Just Hinted at a New "Line of Duty" Series: "We’re All Keeping Our Fingers Crossed!"

Jesus, Mary and the Wee Donkey! Adrian Dunbar just dropped the biggest hint yet that "Line of Duty" could be returning for series 7. Appearing on "Lorraine" on 15 Nov., he was asked if we're likely to get another dose of AC-12. "Yes, there is every possibility. We're all keeping our fingers crossed that we'll hear something at some point," he said.

Dunbar, who plays anti-corruption boss Ted Hastings alongside costars Vicky McClure and Martin Compston, also explained how the three are eager to return to Belfast, where the series is filmed. "The last time we did it it was in lockdown, so we were all in bubbles. We couldn't get out… everything was shut. So we'd like to get back to Belfast for a bit of fun," he revealed. We would very much like that too!

While we finally found out who "H" was in the 2021 "Line of Duty" finale, there was no denying that season six was divisive. The nine-year wait to uncover the identity of the criminal mastermind as bumbling officer Ian Buckwells, played by Nigel Boyle, left some fans disappointed. Although, it might not actually be the ending.

Dunbar has previously suggested that the show might not have tied up all the loose ends just yet. "He's not H. We just got the guy we could actually pin a charge on. We didn't get H; we got Buckells, the patsy," Dunbar told the Radio Times in a 22 Aug. interview.

White neither the BBC nor Jed Mercurio, creator of "Line of Duty", has confirmed or denied another season being in the works; we'd love to see the trio reunite. "There's been talk about a movie or a four-parter or two [episodes of] 90 minutes. We'd love to do it again. I'm really hoping something might happen next year," Dunbar said. He also went on to reveal that there's "something in Jed's laptop — a couple of templates as to how things could go."

"Line of Duty" was the most watched show on BBC iPlayer in 2021, streamed on the platform a huge 137 million times, beating the Olympic Games and the Euros. The desire to watch AC-12 catch "bent coppers" has certainly not gone anywhere, and if these latest hints are anything to go by, we could be seeing "Line of Duty" on our screens sooner than we think.
