Mariah Carey Celebrates The Crown's Season 5 Premiere

Mariah Carey Celebrates "The Crown"'s Return: "Had to Have My Own Screening Dahhlings!"

Christmas came early for Mariah Carey this year, in the form of "The Crown" season five. The pop queen, who's been a longtime fan of Netflix's fictionalised royal drama, celebrated its return on 9 Nov. by hosting her own personal showing at home, of course, while wearing a regal look (a sparkly ensemble with a crown on her head). "THE CROWN 👑 premiered last night and of course I had to have my own screening dahhlings! ☕️💖," she captioned an Instagram video. "Bonus fact: my song Emotions is in the first episode! ahhhh!! 😭 Thank you @netflix @thecrownnetflix!"

During Carey's at-home "The Crown" watch party — which included watching the series on two different TVs (what a flex) — the singer bragged about her love for the show. "I loved seasons one and two," she says in the Instagram clip. "They're all great to me." This isn't the first time she's raved about the Netflix series. In 2017, Carey posted a photo on Instagram of her posing with "The Crown" alum Matt Smith captioned, "Well done you!" 😃 (said like Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II in @thecrownnetflix) 👑 #MattSmith."

"The Crown" returned for its fifth season this week, a little over a year after its previous Emmy-winning season. The series picks up on the royal stories of the British monarchy, focusing on the family's tumultuous reign in the late '80s/early '90s — which included one finalised divorce, two separations, a tell-all book, leaked phone conversations, and a fire at a royal residence.

With so much drama to unpack, one thing's for sure: Carey and other "The Crown" superfans will be tuned into all of season five, as well as the show's sixth and final season once that premieres.
