Speculation about an Oasis reunion have been doing the rounds since the Britpop band split in 2009. Led by Manchester-born brother Noel and Liam Gallagher, who had a notoriously tumultuous relationship, the band reached huge success in the '90s following the release of 1994 album "Definitely Maybe". Their follow-up album, "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" in 1995 became the biggest-selling album of the '90s, with 1997 album "Be Here Now" the fastest-selling album in UK chart history (until Adele's "25" knocked it off the top spot).

But rows and rifts dominated headlines. As the band's rock 'n roll lifestyle and no-holds-barred approach to fame saw them become tabloid favourites, it ultimately also led to the band's split. As Oasis's line-up altered throughout the years, the Gallagher brothers remained the faces of the band until August 2009 when Noel abruptly quit.

Just before the band were due to play at French festival Rock en Seine, Noel released a statement, reading: "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."

Since then, the brothers have had many public bust-ups. Just before Noel left the band, Oasis cancelled a gig at V Festival due to Liam having laryngitis. Noel later said it was actually because his brother had a hangover, and Liam sued him. At the 2010 Brit Awards, Liam collected the award for Best Album of the Last 30 Years and thanked all his bandmates, apart from Noel.

Liam went on to see success as part of the band, Beady Eye, before embarking on a solo career, while Noel is continuing to perform with his band High Flying Birds. However, fans are still crying their hearts out for an Oasis reunion – and it does seem like the tension between the brothers might be thawing. So are the Gallagher's finally taking their own advice and not looking back with anger? Have a read of the times the brothers have commented on a potential Oasis reunion and decide whether you think they can put the past behind them. Surely, Glastonbury headliners are calling?

Noel Shuts Down Oasis Reunion Rumours in 2013

In 2013, Noel seemingly put the Oasis reunion speculation to bed, telling Rolling Stone, "We are split up. You've heard that, haven't you? If there is a reunion, I won't be in it."

Noel Doesn't Attend Premiere of "Oasis: Supersonic" Documentary

In October 2016, "Oasis: Supersonic" hit cinemas. The music documentary, directed by Mat Whitecross. Asif Kapadia, and James Gay-Rees, who won an Oscar for the documentary "Amy" based on Amy Winehouse, detailed the formation and success of the band through archive footage. But even a film about them couldn't see the brothers kiss and make up.

Noel didn't attend the London screening, leading Liam to hit out at his brother. "This probably ain't f***ing A-list enough for him," he said, via the Daily Mail.

Liam Hits Out at Noel For Not Performing at the Manchester One Love Concert in 2017

Following the tragic Manchester Arena bombing in May 2017, singer Ariana Grande set up a benefit concert at Old Trafford stadium. Liam played some of his solo songs as well as Oasis's hit "Rock n' Roll Star". He then later spoke of Noel's absence at the charity concert. "Noels out of the f***ing country weren't we all love get on a f***ing plane and play your tunes for the kids you sad f***.," he tweeted. So, reunion plans going well, then?

The Gallagher Brothers Reportedly Offered £100million to Reunite

In 2021, Liam went on a Twitter rant, disclosing they had been offered a huge £100million to reunite, but it wasn't enough money for Noel. However, the High Flying Birds frontman later responded on Twitter, writing: "To whoever might be arsed: I am not aware of any offer from anybody for any amount of money to reform the legendary Mancunian Rock'n'Roll group Oasis," he wrote. "I am fully aware though that someone has a single to promote so that's maybe where the confusion lies."

The Rumours of an Oasis Reunion Build in 2023

The tides seem to be turning with the brothers rift this year. In January, Noel spoke to BBC Radio Manchester and hinted that he wouldn't rule a reunion out. "One should never say never, right, but I have to be honest and for no other reason than if Oasis hadn't fulfilled its potential," he said. "Like The Stone Roses, when they came back right, they didn't really fulfil their potential, so it was worthwhile for them to come back. Oasis smashed it, repeatedly, for 20-odd years. It would have to take an extraordinary set of circumstances, but that's not to say that those circumstances wouldn't ever come about.

In March, Liam responded to a fan asking if there was any chance that an Oasis reunion would occur, to which he responded, "It's happening".

Noel spoke to The Times in June as speculation was swirling that dates at Knebworth had been blocked out for Oasis gigs in 2025. "If it's going to happen, Liam has to pull it off. It's got to be the best it has ever been. But he's one of these guys and they're ten a penny, particularly up in Manchester, the bully, who when you put it on 'em and say, 'Come on then, let's see what you've got,' start doing a lot of harrumphing," Noel said. "Liam is like a violent version of Arthur Fonzarelli. So I'll say it again: I'm free, back end of 2024. He could even video himself calling me. That would be good for his little f***ing Twitter feed. But since then he's gone quiet. Funny, innit?"

The latest hint that has got fans buzzing is that Liam has reached out to his brother on X, formerly known at Twitter. "Listen I love Rkid he's going through a lot of snizxle at the moment and it'll work itself out he knows where I am if he needs a cuddle n a hug Oasis till I die LG x" he wrote, assumed to be referencing Noel's split from his wife, Sara McDonald earlier this year. Could this be the olive branch that is needed? We'll have to wait and see.
