Alex and Jo are going strong, though their relationship hasn't been without challenges along the way. The couple finds themselves at odds when discussing Jo's choices after her residency at Grey Sloan. Jo later proposes to Alex, realising she doesn't want to go anywhere without him. When they plan their wedding, they hit another problem: Alex discovers that his mother, who is schizophrenic, hasn't been cashing her checks, so he pays her a visit in Iowa and learns she has returned to her job as a librarian.
Even Alex's wedding day has its share of drama, including a wrong invitation address and a wedding planner who goes into anaphylactic shock. Before the ceremony, Alex and Jo sneak off into an abandoned barn to hook up, only to get locked in — with a corpse. Eventually, DeLuca busts them out, and Meredith officiates Alex's wedding on their ferry ride back home.
