At the end of the season, Billy Baker (Taye Diggs) finally stands up to the boosters, and resigns as head coach of the Beverly Eagles. Fast forward to the end of the episode with Billy Baker and Spencer James standing on the field at South Crenshaw High. Spencer just announced he would be returning to South Crenshaw in order to prevent the school from becoming a magnet school. Billy asks him what his plan is and Spencer replies, "Win the state championship next year." Billy, not knowing what Spencer is about to propose says, "That's a lot of weight on your shoulders, son." Spencer replies, "Yeah, I can handle it, with the right coach. Maybe one who never got to win state when he was a student here, with his best friend (referring to Billy and his late father, Corey James). The two converse a little more and Billy agrees.
