Blending early-2000s high school drama with a superhero origin story, Smallville covers the early years of Clark Kent, aka the Kryptonian refugee who will one day become Superman. When we first meet him, though, Clark is just a nerdy teenager in Smallville, pining after a girl he can't have and trying to unravel the mysteries of his past. As time goes on, the show becomes less about Clark's "normal" life and more of a true superhero show, but its earlier seasons strike more of a balance between the two.
