Adele postponed her Vegas residency just a day before her first show was scheduled to begin on 20 Jan. at the Colosseum at Las Vegas's Caesars Palace hotel. That same day, the "Easy on Me" singer tearfully broke the news in a video posted on Instagram. "I'm so sorry, but my show ain't ready," she said. "We've tried absolutely everything we can to put it together in time and for it to be good enough for you, but we've been absolutely destroyed by delivery delays and COVID." Adele went on to reveal that half of her crew and team were sick with COVID and that it had been "impossible to finish the show."
She added: "I'm gutted — I'm sorry it's so last minute; we've been awake for over 30 hours trying to figure it out, and we've run out of time. I'm so upset, and I'm really embarrassed and so sorry to everyone that travelled to get [to the show]. I'm really, really sorry."
During an 11 Feb. appearance on "The Graham Norton Show," Adele shared an update on her residency, though at the time, she made it clear she still wasn't ready to share a new schedule. "We are now working our asses off, but I don't want to announce a new set of dates until I know everything will definitely be ready," she said. "The sooner I can announce, the better, but I just can't in case we are not ready in time. It is absolutely 100 percent happening this year. It has to happen this year, because I've got plans for next year."
She also apologised for the last-minute cancellation, noting, "It would have been a really half-assed show, and I can't do that. People will see straight through me up on the stage and know I didn't want to be doing it. I've never done anything like that in my life, and I'm not going to start now."
