Emma Thompson plays Nancy Stokes, who finds herself widowed, retired, and desperately seeking excitement she never found in her marriage or career. She decides to hire a sex worker so she can explore her sexuality in a way she never has before, and even writes an extensive list of positions she wants to try, but when he shows up, she finds herself talking and developing a real bond with young Leo Grande. The film follows the pair over the course of three evenings together as they begin to confront their insecurities and slowly reveal their true selves to each other.
