This film, based on a play of the same name, follows the lives of a group of Southern women including characters played by Sally Field, Dolly Parton, and Shirley MacLaine, centred at a Louisiana beauty salon. Roberts stars as Shelby, a newlywed suffering from type 1 diabetes whose health is, unfortunately, at risk.
