Popsugar Entertainment Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Reactions to Chewie's "Death" The Reactions to Chewbacca's Near-Miss in The Rise of Skywalker Are Hilarious 22 December 2019 by Amanda Prahl Image Source: Everett Collection There were a few tearjerking deaths in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but fortunately, at least one didn't stick: Chewbacca's. At one point, surprisingly early on in the movie, it appears that he becomes an accidental casualty of Rey's unexpected unleashing of Force lightning when she's trying to stop the First Order transport with him on it. Luckily, we soon learn that there were two transports, and the one with Chewie on it didn't actually leave until after a devastated Rey fled, believing she'd just caused the death of her friend. As you might expect, the emotional roller coaster of this fake-out left audiences with some major feelings, and they weren't shy about sharing them on Twitter! Keep reading to see how fans let loose about all their feelings about Chewbacca's brush with death. If "He must have been on another transport" isn't the new "Dany kind of forgot about the Iron Fleet" by the end of the year, we have failed as an internet.— Emily CrimCramWerff (@tvoti) December 21, 2019 1 / 15 “I guess he must have been on a different transport!” pic.twitter.com/ZxVq8ENUFJ— david ehrlich (@davidehrlich) December 21, 2019 2 / 15 That look on your face when you accidentally shoot lighting out of your hand and murder Chewbacca because Kylo lied to you and your actually a Palpatine. pic.twitter.com/d6IizXcsOy— Evan Monroe (@EvanMonroe12) December 14, 2019 3 / 15 “She kind of forgot about the other transport” pic.twitter.com/pstNwOszWh— yb (@obijiang) December 21, 2019 4 / 15 The shame is, it was a really good idea. Enough that J.J. used it, but then he didn't have the guts to stick with it. I think the real danger is "He must have been on another transport" might become the new "Mystery box". That it becomes the new short-hand that defines him...— Nick Field (@nick_field90) December 21, 2019 5 / 15 “He must have been on another transport” still makes me mad whenever I think about it— Tom Bown (@bown) December 21, 2019 6 / 15 love how rey, poe, and finn thought rey killed chewie and they were all just like awww man well it was just a mistake 🤷♀️ literally the worst writing— 𝒄.’𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 (@reygranger) December 20, 2019 7 / 15 REY JUST LIGHTNING ZAPPED CHEWIE PFFFFFLMAOOO #TheRiseOfSkywalker— Pitt Lefto (@JLongb0ne) December 20, 2019 8 / 15 TROS SPOILERS.......JJ Abrams TWICE goes for the cheap tactic of pretending that an OT character has died. First Chewie gets blown up (but later found not to have blown up) and then 3PO gets his memory wiped (but later restored from backup). 1/2— Ree Yees’ 3rd Eye (@ReeYees3rdEye) December 19, 2019 9 / 15 Oh and the Chewie “death” scene got a strong gasp reaction— Nivaliente | TROS SPOILERS (@afeelofunease) December 20, 2019 10 / 15 Then the fake out Chewie death was so unnecessary because I felt real emotions thinking he was gone only for them to be torn apart not five minutes later (maybe even shorter but who knows?)— Annie (@fanaticfan15) December 20, 2019 11 / 15 The biggest real problem with the movie was "oh shit they're dead" syndrome. Chewie's "death" hit super hard, but then they said just kidding and nothing else carried the same weight.— Gruv Train (@Gruv_Train) December 20, 2019 12 / 15 Chewie's "death" was genuinely shocking, though I do wish they held off a little longer on revealing that he had survived. Rey and Ben's Force bond allowing them to fight sort of out-of-space is a very cool idea and is done well, especially when Ben is on Kijimi.— 🌅 Ava Aelius 🌅 (@AvaAelius) December 20, 2019 13 / 15 -when i thought that chewie was death i was about to throw hands;44/— 🌟 (@txicpurple) December 20, 2019 14 / 15 *SPOILERS* The Chewie “death” was one of the rare moments that actually made me feel something, but they took that away in literally 2 minutes time. This was a common theme throughout the film, with Kylo dying or nearly dying 4 separate times.— Nicole (@Seddair) December 21, 2019 15 / 15 Star Wars: The Rise Of SkywalkerMoviesStar Wars
