The Imperfects Trailer | Netflix

Netflix's New Series "The Imperfects" Has Traces of X-Men Energy

Netflix hit the ground running during its second annual Geeked Week on June 6. Among the flurry of trailers released on Monday — including an announcement for season two of "All of Us Are Dead" and a peek at Jenna Ortega's new "Wednesday" series — the streaming platform introduced "The Imperfects," a new "action-adventure, monster sci-fi" show.

"The Imperfects" Plot

"The Imperfects," which will be run by "Van Helsing" and "Fargo"'s Dennis Heaton, is the story of three 20-something test subjects who become part of an experimental gene-therapy study against their will. The result? They're able to harness supernatural abilities — including shapeshifting and telekinesis — that come with a few chilling side effects. Now seen as monsters, the group set out to track down the mad scientist who conducted the experiment, all while "being chased by a government agency, dealing with college applications, teenage romance, random monster mutations, and all of sorts of coming-of-age-related dramas."

The intense fantasy trailer also shares a glimpse at the cast in action as they come to terms with their newfound supernatural abilities and try to cope with the fact that they're no longer entirely human. Like the X-Men crew mixed with the "Animorphs" teens — and a lot of fake blood — the new show is basically a superhero series crossed with horror.

"The Imperfects" Cast

"The Imperfects" will star Italia Ricci as Dr. Sydney Burke, Iñaki Godoy as Juan Ruiz, Morgan Taylor Campbell as Tilda Webber, Rhianna Jagpal as Abbi Singh, Rhys Nicholson as Dr. Alex Sarkov, Kyra Zagorsky as Isabel Finch, Celina Martin as Hannah Moore, Junnicia Lagoutin as Darcy Cobourg, Rekha Sharma as Dominique Crain, Ron Selmour as Agent Jim Sponson, Jennifer Cheon Garcia as Detective Sonja Benning, and Siddhartha Minhas as Ben Singh. The series will also feature Chris Cope as Gareth, Brandon Fung as Maxwell, Diego Stredel as Alejandro Ruiz, Veronica Long as Rose, Mya Lowe as Jules, and Leslie Kwan as Paul.

"The Imperfects" Release Date

Netflix has not yet confirmed an official release date for "The Imperfects," but the series is expected to make its debut sometime in 2022.
