On 18 Feb, "Baroness Basic", aka Tia Kofi, was eliminated from season two of RuPaul's Drag Race UK, and today, she's blocking out the haters with the release of her brand-new music video, "Outside In". Her elimination wasn't a surprise to viewers, as it came after weeks of disappointment from the judges. Last week, Kofi's attempts placed her in the bottom two for the third (and last) time. After leaving the competition, Kofi decided to shift her efforts towards topping the charts, releasing a new single. Collaborating with Tom Aspaul and "Remedy" singer Little Boots on the track, it's become a firm favourite amongst her fans, already gaining over 50,000 streams online.
Tia Kofi spoke to Metro about her career transition: "It's something that's always been sort of inside, in my head and something that I've always sort of aspired to, but I never dreamed that I'd have the platform or the ability to do it. . . . I've actually written songs previously for past Drag Race contestants and when I knew that I was going to be on the show, I started thinking about sort of writing my own songs. A mutual friend put me in touch with Tom Aspaul and Little Boots, who had this amazing song which sort of allowed me to put my own vocals and own spin on."
The video for "Outside In" sees Kofi fully made up in a glowing neon setting, wearing outfits and wigs that even Michelle Visage would approve of — with no H&M in sight. Watch it above.
