Watch Derrian Gobourne's 2021 Floor Routine For Auburn

'90s Babies Will Love This Salt-N-Pepa Floor Routine From Gymnast Derrian Gobourne

Last year, before the 2020 NCAA Gymnastics season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Auburn University gymnast Derrian Gobourne showcased a floor routine set to hit songs by Beyoncé. This season, she's back as a junior with a routine that's fun, fabulous, and all kinds of fierce — and her songs of choice are ones '90s babies will surely love!

In the video above, check out Gobourne dancing along to Salt-N-Peppa's "Push It," "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" by Will Smith, and Trick Daddy's "Take It to da House." Gobourne told POPSUGAR via email that she grew up listening to the Trick Daddy song at family functions. Salt-N-Peppa, she said, is "easy to groove to," and incorporating "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" was, she noted, an idea from Auburn assistant coach Ashley Johnston. "It's definitely one of my favourite parts of the routine," Gobourne said of Will Smith's hit track.

This specific performance scored a career-high 9.975 on Feb. 5. Her choreography, which actually was put together with the help of her brother, includes her waving to the judges before landing a high-flying double pike and, throughout the routine, placing an imaginary crown on her head.

"The crown pose represents strength and confidence," Gobourne said. "I've been through a lot in my life, but I refuse to let those moments define me. The crown represents who I am today and what has shaped me into the Derrian Gobourne you see out on the floor!"
