By 1996, the New York Islanders hockey team was at the lowest of the low. With a dwindling fan base, losing streaks, and mismanagement among the franchise, the Islanders needed a hero. Businessman John Spano quickly became that hero, offering to buy the team for $165 million and revitalize the program.
