Starbucks' Clotted Cream Fudge Cold Brew Review

I Tried the New Starbucks Clotted Cream Fudge Cold Brew, and It's a Childhood Throwback

The weather might be temperamental, but there's always one thing we can count on in summer: Starbucks's cold drinks. And from 10 August, there's a brand new caffeine-kick to add to your must-try list – and it will transport you straight to the British seaside. The coffee giant's new drink is the Clotted Cream Fudge Cold Brew and, for those with a sweet tooth, it really is as delicious as it sounds.

We all know the coffee chain is expert at creating a viral beverage (hello, cloud frappuccino), as well as their ever-popular seasonal staple, the pumpkin spice latte. So, could their new cold brew be the answer to our summer prayers? I think so.

Firstly, this UK exclusive drink looks as Instagram-worthy as you'd expect, and the warming colours would look perfect on your feed next to your latte makeup looks. The combination of the dark, vanilla-flavoured cold brew (which is a ready-brewed iced coffee, combined with ground coffee and cool water) combined with the fluffy, clotted cream fudge-infused foam is just chef's kiss, especially when the foam starts to trickle down like a drinkable snow globe. But it's not all style over substance.

The drink is finished with a clotted cream fudge sprinkle topping, which provides just the right amount of sweetness, before being cut through by the strong cold brew. The clotted cream fudge flavour isn't overpowering and transported me to family holidays along the coast of the UK where I remember begging my parents to let me buy just one piece of fudge from the local sweet shop.

I'll be honest, the drink might be a little too dialled up on the caffeine for my palette, but coffee aficionados will appreciate the delicate balance of creamy, sweet, and powerful notes here. The ice makes it an ideal treat for a hot day, but we wouldn't blame you if you opted for this drink all-year-round; after all, it has now got a permanent spot on the Starbucks menu. Fudge and clotted cream is just the ticket for the festive season, too. When cream tea meets coffee, what's not to love?

The Clotted Cream Fudge Cold Brew will set you back £4.15 for a Tall, but if you're in need of an afternoon pick-me-up, it's well worth the money. If you're looking for a taste of summer, then take a sip and envision the good old British seaside.
