Now, parents can give their kids a definitive answer to that question, as Sesame Street is a very real street in New York City in honour of the show's 50th anniversary — and yes, it's permanent! In celebration of the new "Sesame Street Day" on May 1, Mayor Bill de Blasio, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Elmo, Ernie, and the rest of the crew took to the corner of Broadway and 63rd St., dubbing the intersection Sesame Street, green sign and all. "There is also something beautiful for us watching when they were young to see our own city, even our own neighbourhood portrayed in Sesame Street. And you cannot take the New York City out of Sesame Street, can you?" No you most definitely cannot!
