Flora’s character stands up for what she believes in.

Flora clearly has a good sense of what's right and wrong, proving that sometimes, it's necessary for kids to go with their gut and stand up for what they believe in. When the animal control officer takes Ulysses to be euthanized, Flora does everything in her power to prevent it from happening.

It's wonderful that Flora stands by her convictions, but parents may wish to add that kids should also feel empowered to check in with trusted adults who may be able to help, too. It may be worthwhile to emphasise the importance of having kids share their concerns, thoughts, and feelings with these dependable individuals when they're facing adversity, rather than taking matters into their own hands.
