Popsugar Tech Instagram Instagram Newsfeed Scroll Update December 2018 Instagram Accidentally Released a Newsfeed Update, and Everyone Lost Their Sh*t 27 December 2018 by Victoria Messina Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Sheila Gim On Dec. 27, Instagram sparked a full-on meltdown by accidentally releasing a newsfeed update that made users everywhere exclaim, "WTF?!" in unison. The app update affected the newsfeed layout, replacing traditional vertical scrolling with a horizontal swiping feature that forced users to tap to advance sideways through photos in their feed, somewhat similar to Instagram Stories. Needless to say, the out-of-the-blue change caused a flurry of complaints among users, with many threatening to delete the app altogether. Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri was quick to address the divisive switch-up, describing it as a test gone wrong. "That was supposed to be a very small test that went broad by accident. Should be fixed now," Mosseri wrote while replying to a tweet about the update. He added that any users affected by the change can restart the app to reset things back to normal. Shortly after, Instagram's main Twitter account chimed in, apologising for any confusion caused by the so-called "bug." Phew, what a journey that was! Ahead, catch a glimpse at what the wacky update looked like before it got rolled back, followed by all the on-point reactions that flooded Twitter.
