World Oceans Day Beauty Products 2018
These Marine-Inspired Products Are Cute — but the Backstories Are Even Better

Before I dreamed of becoming a beauty editor, 10-year-old me had a very different dream: becoming a marine biologist. Unfortunately, I quickly found out during middle school that my strengths leaned more toward writing than science. I still have a deep passion for animals and marine life, and this World Oceans Day, my two loves are colliding, thanks to some extremely generous beauty brands.
In order to raise money for ocean conservation, some of our favourite brands are donating money to various oceanic causes and offering us sweet beauty deals so we can participate in the sea-saving efforts. Ahead are some philanthropic brands that are Mother Earth-approved.
Take My Face Off
You may love your makeup wipes — but it turns out our beaches don't. Take My Face Off makes reusable Makeup Mittys ($39 for three) so that we can all stop contributing to shoreline pollution. The brand is also donating 20 percent of its profits for June to the Ocean Conservancy's Trash Free Seas initiative, which aims to end the flow of trash to our oceans.
Lush
Lush always has adorable Jelly Bombs, but in honour of World Oceans Day, it's launching one with a deeper meaning. The Turtle Jelly Bomb ($8) smells like pine and sandalwood while raising awareness of plastic pollution in our oceans, which kills over 100 million sea creatures a year.
Lush is always finding ways to make our lives more eco-friendly, and around 40 percent of the brand's products are sold without plastic packageing. The brand also supports The Sea Change Agency, which hosts paddleboarding trips to collect plastic and debris off the coast of Los Angeles.
Kate Somerville
In an effort to help reduce plastic pollution from the environment, Kate Somerville has teamed up with the Plastic Oceans Foundation. The brand has already pledged to make all of its packageing recyclable by 2022 and has added more promises to the list in honour of World Oceans Day.
The brand pledges to remove plastic from the packageing of all of its kits, reduce nonessential plastic from the Kate Somerville Skin Health Clinic and eliminate it from the head office, make its packageing recyclable, and provide employees with volunteer opportunities to support sustainability.
Tarte Cosmetics
Tarte has pledged to donate $25,000 to the Sea Turtle Conservancy, a group dedicated to saving the animals from extinction. The cruelty-free brand is also trying to get Tarte customers in on an eco-friendly lifestyle by giving away cute reusable totes to anyone who purchases $25 worth of the brand's products at Sephora stores or online.
In addition to the donation, the brand is dropping the price of the Rainforest of the Sea eye shadow and highlighter palettes to only $25.
