There are typically two types of people in the summer: those who cut all of their hair off into a super short style like a bob haircut, and those who keep it long and embrace their inner mermaid for the entire season. If you fall into the latter category, you're going to love the "Botticelli" hair trend.

If the name sounds familiar, it's because the haircut trend is inspired by Italian Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli. Random? A little bit, but hear us out. "Hair is in this style is worn extremely long and unstructured with a natural fluffy wave," Tom Smith, celebrity hairstylist and international colour creative director for Evo Hair, tells POPSUGAR. Just picture the people in renaissance paintings with their long, tousled, flowing hair.

What Is "Botticelli" Hair?

Smith describes "Botticelli" hair as being "extremely youthful" with a "mother earth," flower child vibe. "This style shows a free and relaxed energy," he says. The extra-long length also gives the look a luxurious, ethereal-feel but in an effortless kind of way. The "Botticelli" haircut trend is a drastic departure from the choppy, shag haircuts that have been the go-to all winter long — we're talking about the ever-popular bixie, octopus, and wolf cuts — but as the weather warms up, it may be just the thing you need to refresh your look.

How to Get "Botticelli" Hair

Before heading to the salon for a light trim, look for reference photos of the look. A few celebrities that rock the carefree, beachy style are Gigi Hadid, Megan Fox, Rihanna, and Addison Rae.

"Ask your stylist to keep your hair as long as possible, softening any blunt lines and encouraging your natural wave," says Smith. If you need a little help in the length department, it may be a fun time to experiment with hair extensions.

How to Style the "Botticelli" Haircut Trend

"If you don't have natural waves, use a small curling tong and twist large sections around, stretching them out while still hot to get the fluffy elongated waves," says Smith. For a heat-free option, try scrunching some of the Kevin.Murphy Hair.Resort cream into your hair while damp, braiding it into two loose pigtails, and sleeping in them. Finish the style off with a texturising powder, like the Evo Haze Styling Powder, "scrunched through the underneath layers, which will increase volume and that aerated, fluffy finish."
