Blame it on the need to make the most out of this fleeting summer or the upcoming "Barbie" movie, but so many celebrities are going pink. Not that there needs to be a reason for dying your hair pink, but the sudden spike in interest with this hair-colour trend is certainly on the rise.
We've seen an uptick in celebrities with pink hair like this before. It was post-stay-at-home orders following the COVID-19 pandemic when many people were spending more time at home and experimenting with their look. At the time, everyone from Kaia Gerber to Ava Phillippe and Dua Lipa gave the look a try.
And the pink popularity might be due to what the colour represents. "This is culture specific, so I am speaking in terms of American culture, but pink is usually seen as a romantic, youthful, cheerful, and whimsical colour," Naomi Torres-Mackie, PhD, head of research at The Mental Health Coalition and practicing psychologist at New York City's Lenox Hill Hospital, told POPSUGAR last year of the psychology behind pink hair. The colour can make us feel calm, happy, and excited. These words also sum up many people's feelings about the summer, which may explain why June, July, and August are common times to dye your hair pink.
Not to mention, with so much buzz around the upcoming "Barbie" movie starring Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, "Barbiecore" is alive and well, and its influence is being felt not just in the hair department but in nails, makeup, and fashion, too.
