Within the last year, it has become well known as the source for all of Hollywood's secrets, including celebrity-made trademarks. When a B-list reality star is launching a leave-in styling spray or perfume, DeuxMoi knows — and posts — all the details. So the mysterious creator behind the account knew that if there were one category worth diving into, it would be lip gloss.
As a self-proclaimed curator of pop culture, DeuxMoi knows what her audience likes, doesn't like, and is insatiably curious about, so it wasn't too hard to decide which lip glosses were worth trying. From Selena Gomez's Rare Beauty to Ariana Grande's r.e.m., DeuxMoi road tested eight celebrity-owned lip glosses and gave her unfiltered opinion on each — for better or for worse.
Rihanna's Fenty Beauty
The Lip Gloss: A lot of glosses have been made in our lifetime, but few got people talking quite like the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminiser ($20). But is it worth the hype?
DeuxMoi's Verdict: This lip gloss is the reigning champ for many, including the mastermind behind DeuxMoi. The shiny and glassy finish offers up a punch of shimmer in the best way possible. The formula goes on like butter, lasts for hours, and smells like you're on your honeymoon sipping a fruity cocktail poolside. Not even a little bit sticky, this lip gloss is easy to apply, to wear, and to love.
Selena Gomez's Rare Beauty
The Lip Gloss: Rare Beauty calls the Vulnerable Glossy Lip Balm ($18) a "lip mask in a gloss." Thanks to the cushiony, balm-like formula, this soft gloss offers pigment and shine, but no stick.
DeuxMoi's Verdict: If you're looking for a super-shimmery '00s vibe, you won't find it here. Instead, you'll find a lot of shine, even more hydration, and some very chic packageing. DeuxMoi describes this gloss as being "not-at-all sticky" and super easy to apply. The smooth formula is as nourishing as the brand promises, but it does tend to fade fast, so you might find yourself reapplying it often. DeuxMoi gives this one some bonus points for style and customer service: the gloss arrived in a cute drawstring bag, plus the brand offered free samples with her purchase. Ultimately, this gloss was so good, it landed a second place spot on DeuxMoi's personal ranking.
Ariana Grande's R.e.m. Beauty
The Lip Gloss: Meet the new kid on the block, the r.e.m. Beauty On Your Collar Plumping Lip Gloss ($17). It hasn't been around for long, but the tiny tube of tingling gloss is making a name for itself online.
DeuxMoi's Verdict: Besides the noticeable tackiness, which isn't necessarily a con, DeuxMoi calls out this lip gloss's opaque pigment. The tiny tube is loaded with a minty fragrance that you'd think foreshadows the plumping results it promises. Unfortunately, that spicy tingle wasn't as intense as DeuxMoi expected, but the powerful finish of the neutral shade Away Message made up for it. This gloss pulls a page out of 2002's beauty playbook and foregoes a wand applicator altogether. Instead, this little tube uses a plastic slanted-tip applicator that makes reapplication super smooth.
Addison Rae's Item Beauty
The Lip Gloss: Addison Rae isn't the first TikTok star to step into the beauty space, but it's her Item Beauty Lip Quip Moisturising Lip Oil ($14) that's making a splash among the beauty community. Since it's an oil-based product, this lip gloss is meant to be slick, shiny, and packed with moisture.
DeuxMoi's Verdict: Talk about an underdog. DeuxMoi says that this was the one product she was the most surprised by. First things first, juicy doesn't begin to describe it; the shade Come Thru created a slippery but thick wetness on the lips, which was surprisingly easy to blend. Because of this slickness, you might have to reapply this every 20 minutes, but it's just pretty enough that you won't mind. Sometimes, scent can be a big turn-off, but the Lip Quip smells like a tropical smoothie in the best way possible.
Drew Barrymore's Flower Beauty
The Lip Gloss: Flower Beauty levels up expectations with the Petal Pout Lip Mask ($10), a soothing recovery treatment that adds a subtle wash of colour to the lips.
DeuxMoi's Verdict: You wouldn't be wrong to call this lip gloss a mask, too. The formula goes on thick with lots of shine, but no sparkle. Yes, the colour is sheer and subtle, but the gloss feels very hydrating on the lips. As for the application process, DeuxMoi notes just how rarely you have to reapply this formula, but adds that the applicator itself isn't her favourite — wands just seem better fitting for gloss formulas like this. And if you're not into scents, like DeuxMoi, you might want to use this sparingly; the cocoa butter makes itself known in this one.
Halsey's About Face Light Lock Lip Gloss
The Lip Gloss: Halsey's About Face Light Lock Lip Gloss ($13, originally $18) might lack the boldness you'll find in the brand's eye collection, but it's worth noting all the same. Its biggest promise: all of the shine, none of the stick.
DeuxMoi's Verdict: The shade Double Clutch left DeuxMoi wishing for more shine, but the featherlight, mousse-like texture might have made up for it. Although you have to reapply it often, this shade in particular was impressively pigmented in just a swipe. It also doesn't hurt that the packageing kind of looks like it belongs in a disco club. It might not be the gloss you reach for every single day, but this your-lips-but-better shade deserves a place in your neutral collection.
Lady Gaga's Haus Laboratories
The Lip Gloss: Lip glosses tend to weigh you down — you can't avoid the sensation that it is, in fact, on your lips — but Haus Laboratories set out to make Le Riot Lip Gloss ($18) feel practically weightless while still being super reflective and packed with pigment.
DeuxMoi's Verdict: Come for the long-lasting colour, but stay for the super-thick formula. Subtle is not in Lady Gaga's vocabulary, so it's not surprising that this formula is sticky, thick, and shiny. Thanks to the curved doe-foot applicator, this gloss is easy to sweep over lips. Although the brand carries a range of bright and bold shades, DeuxMoi opted for Corset, a neutral peach, that, she says, is a flattering but sheer nude.
Millie Bobby Brown's Florence by Mills
The Lip Gloss: Florence by Mills was founded by teen queen Millie Bobby Brown, so it's not entirely surprising that the Get Glossed Lip Gloss ($12) sets out to be a comfy, nonsticky option in your makeup bag. The formula uses skin-care ingredients like vitamin E and castor seed oil to nourish lips while it coats them in colour.
DeuxMoi's Verdict: While she can confirm that this gloss is, in fact, not sticky at all, DeuxMoi adds that the formula reminds her of Y2K makeup trends that included a lot of sparkle and frosted finishes. The unique applicator — flat versus the usual curved — serves this formula well; since it's so pigmented, the flat tip is necessary for manipulating and moving around the colour. Unfortunately, the shade DeuxMoi tested — Magnetic Mills — is discontinued now. If you want something similar, try Mysterious Mills instead.
