As the evenings get lighter and the excitement for summer draws near, it's finally time to start putting together my summer makeup bag. As someone who enjoy's a light-weight foundation in the warmer months, I've been on the hunt for the perfect match. And I've finally found it in Fenty Beauty's Soft'Lit Naturally Luminous Longwear Foundation (£34)

For context, I used to wear Fenty Beauty's Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation when it first launched. However, as a dry skin girl, the matte finish didn't really suit my skin type. Then, the beauty brand launched the Pro Filt'r Hydrating Foundation but it got discontinued, so I've been anxiously awaiting another hydrating product.

Rihanna's Fenty Beauty was the pioneer of inclusive foundation shades with the launch of the Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation in 2017. As a Black woman, I often found it hard to find an exact match for my skin. Most brands would only have two or three options to cover all shades and hues of brown, but Fenty raised the bar and have continued to do so. Fenty Beauty's Soft'Lit Naturally Luminous Longwear Foundation follows Pro Filt'r's lead and comes in an impressive 50 shades, after identifying the gaps in shade offering and adding nine more.

Rhianna herself said: "One of the things that I felt was really important to start with was foundation. Foundation is one of those areas in the beauty industry that has a big void for people at extreme ends of the shade spectrum. There's this middle ground that's covered really, really well. But then if you're very light or if you're very deep, there aren't a lot of options. And so, I wanted to make sure that people of all skin tones were covered so they could be included in what I created."

  • What I Liked About Fenty Beauty Soft'Lit Naturally Luminous Longwear Foundation

Before the shade expansion, I was shade 430, which was slightly too warm for me and this showed after a few hours of use as the foundation started to oxidise. Now with the shade expansion, I'm shade 425 and this is now my perfect shade. It felt incredible to just get the right shade without my previous struggle of needing to mix shades. It blends into my skin seamlessly. For anyone that is struggling with shade matching, it's more likely than ever that Fenty will definitely have a shade for you.

As soon as I pumped the foundation into my hand to test, I could instantly see how light-weight the formula was. When I applied the foundation on my skin, I noticed the luminous results, it's like a golden hour glow in a bottle. My skin was instantly brightened and lifted with just one layer of foundation.

I also enjoy that it's medium coverage but has a very natural finish. I've never been a full glam girl so the Fenty Beauty Soft'Lit Naturally Luminous Longwear Foundation is perfect for me. This foundation is clearly made for people who still want the performance of the brand's products but just want a slightly more natural look. It also felt light-weight on the skin - it doesn't feel cakey at all.

What to Consider About Fenty Beauty's Soft'Lit Naturally Luminous Longwear Foundation

If you're someone that suffers with a lot of hyperpigmentation or enjoys a full glam, this might not be the product for you. Although the Soft'Lit Naturally Luminous Longwear Foundation is medium buildable coverage, you are left with a very natural finish. If you need full-coverage it might be best to try other options.

Does Fenty Beauty's Soft'Lit Naturally Luminous Longwear Foundation Oxidise?

Now, this is a key question I've seen popping up online. Foundation oxidises when the oils in your makeup react to air, your skin's acidity and natural oils. This then causes your foundation to turn darker. This is personal to every individual so I can only speak from my own experience. I found that this did happen sometimes with the Pro Filt'r Soft Matte and left an orange tint after a few hours so, I've put the Soft'Lit foundation to the test to see the difference.

I primed my skin with the NARS Radiance Primer, (£34) lightly filled in my brows with Benifit's Precisely, My Brow Pencil, (£26) and put a layer of the foundation on. I left the foundation on for a number of hours and did my various tasks throughout the day to see if the foundation would oxidise, leave an orange tint or produce oils.

At 7am, I was left with an instant glow and my skin was instantly brightened. The coverage is good: it hid some slight hyperpigmentation and I felt confident leaving the house for errands with just the foundation, brows and lip oil.

How My Fenty Beauty Soft'Lit Naturally Luminous Longwear Foundation Looked at 4pm

It's clear from the results that the Fenty Beauty Soft'Lit Naturally Luminous Longwear Foundation doesn't oxidise on me or leave that pesky orange tint. I was very happy with the results. Naturally, as the day went on I got a bit oily, but the foundation definitely held well. Fenty Beauty does call it long-lasting and especially without the use of any other products like setting spray or powder after a full day, it still looked good.
