I just moved from San Francisco to Los Angeles a few months ago, and a lot has changed when it comes to my beauty routine. Due to the hot weather (when we can actually get a sunny day, I mean), my skin is consistently thirsty AF. I've always had dry skin, which means I've always been a body-lotion girl, but now that I spend a lot of time out in the sun, I've found that I need something more — which is where body oils come in.
I've started rotating these ultra-hydrating products into my daily routine, but I've found that it can be difficult to find formulas that work for me. I wouldn't say I'm picky, per se, but I have a few requirements. I don't want anything too heavy or a formula that just sits on top of my skin. It needs to absorb quickly and moisturise at the same time. I love anything that offers a little extra glow, but I don't want it to stain my clothing or leave my skin looking sweaty. I could go on, but I'm sure you catch my drift. A good body oil is hard to find — or at least, it was, until I tested the Gisou Golden Shimmer Glow Body Oil (£22). It just launched, but I was able to test a sample from the brand ahead of time, and TBH, it was love at first application.

What I Like About the Gisou Golden Shimmer Glow Body Oil
I have dry skin, especially in the summer. I spend a lot of time rolling around in the sand or swimming in salt water or chlorine, and I've found that all of my favourite activities tend to dry me out even more.
This oil was love at first application. It's lightweight, doesn't feel too thick or syrupy, and rubs in easily, absorbing into skin quickly. I used it for the first time while at the beach, and I didn't need to give it time to dry before jumping into a game of beach volleyball. I found that it kept my skin hydrated for hours and even after getting dusty and gross from the sand during our game, my legs still felt soft and smooth to the touch.
I'm not a huge fan of fragrance in my beauty products, but the scent of this body oil isn't overwhelming — it's light, sweet, and reminds me of summer. Also, although this isn't the biggest selling point for me, I do love the packaging — it's stunning and looks great on my vanity.
How to Use the Gisou Golden Shimmer Glow Body Oil
The brand recommends applying it to any body part that needs extra hydration and softness. They also note that it can be used with a body milk or lotion for an extra boost of moisture.
Since testing it, I've found that I like using it in a few different ways. If I'm going out for the night and wearing a tank top or an outfit with spaghetti straps, I like applying it to my collarbone zone to give my skin a little shimmer. If I'm feeling especially dry, I like mixing it with my favourite unscented lotion and then applying it where I need the moisture the most. I've tried applying it on both dry skin and damp skin, and although it works on both, I've found that if I'm in serious need of hydration, applying it to damp, freshly showered skin is the way to go.
One thing to note is that the brand does not recommend using it on your face — while there shouldn't be any serious issues with using it that way, it's really meant for the body.
What to Consider Before Trying the Gisou Golden Shimmer Glow Body Oil
Gisou already has a Honey Infused Body Oil, but this product has an added pearlescent finish. It isn't glittery, but it does have "pearlescent pigments" that the brand says capture and reflect light. This is what gives the body such a nice glow.
Personally, I love the golden sheen, but if you're looking for something strictly hydrating, the original formula might be a better option for you.
Also, at £22 for a 45ml bottle, this product isn't super pricey, but it may still be a treat yourself moment. A little does go a long way, and I can see this bottle lasting me the entire summer and beyond.
