About a year ago, my lips gave up. I blame the radiator in my apartment. Now, I spend the majority of my day inspecting my lips in the mirror, peeling crusted sheaths of skin from their surface because they're that dry. Luckily, I've finally found a solution to my depleted lips: the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Lip Pop.

Similar to the brand's bestselling brainchild, the new Lip Pop formula is infused with watermelon extract, one of beauty's buzziest ingredients as of late for its hydrating and soothing properties. It's also said to promote cell turnover, which in the case of my lips, is a very good thing. But it's not just the watermelon extract that make this product so special. It's also the additional blend of ingredients that make it something of a balm, exfoliator, and lipstick hybrid.
While the watermelon extract softens and moisturises, coconut flower sugar physically buffs away dead skin on the surface of lips. Dissolving the sugar is as simple as rubbing your lips together, or using your ring finger to gentle massage and exfoliate the skin. To guarantee a smooth finish, the Lip Pop formula is also infused with chemical exfoliants, flower-derived AHAs that gently promote cell turnover below the surface so no matter what you're left with softer lips.
So, it hydrates, it exfoliates, but the Lip Pop also leaves behind a flattering your-lips-but-juicier stain. Think the kind of juicy colour a strawberry popsicle would leave on your lips on a hot summer day. While the concept isn't new — pH-adjusting lip products have been around for years — it's the pretty pink colour payoff that sold me. I own a similarly staining balm, but it costs close to $40.
