Keke Palmer Jokes Pregnancy Is Her Anti-Acne Secret

Keke Palmer Jokes She's "Found the Secret" to Clearer Skin: "Get Knocked Up"

Keke Palmer has unlocked a personal "cure" for acne during her pregnancy. On 5 Jan., the "Nope" star spilled her "secrets" for clearer skin in an Instagram video. "I'm here to let y'all know that I've found the secret," she joked. "I've found the secret to clearing up my acne, and guess what it is? Ya need to get knocked up."

"Do you understand? The baby has cleared my skin up!"

The mum-to-be went on to celebrate her smoother skin, adding that her face has never been so clear. "So, look, I know you can't see it right now because I've got a face full of makeup on, but to really get into it, I want you to see that everything right here is extremely flat," Palmer said, pointing to her cheeks. Hours earlier, she shared a photo of her bare face without makeup before bed, smiling at her clearer skin.

"The reason my skin is clear is because I'm pregnant with a baby right now," she added. "Do you understand? The baby has cleared my skin up! Get into the pores. You can't tell for real, but I need you to know it ain't never laid flat like this."

Of course, Palmer's "secret" to clearer skin isn't a cure-all — some people's acne can get worse during pregnancy. In the past, Palmer has openly addressed her journey with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which is a hormone disorder that affects people in their reproductive years, according to WebMD. In addition to common symptoms like "missed, irregular, infrequent, or prolonged periods," PCOS can often result in excessive body hair, breakouts, and oily skin.

"Poly Cystic Ovarian syndrome has been attacking me from the inside out my entire life and I had no idea," Palmer wrote in an Instagram post in December 2020. "My acne has been so bad that people in my field offered to pay for me to get it fixed. I tried EVERYTHING. I did Accutane TWICE." After a lengthy back-and-forth struggle with doctors who failed to offer her appropriate treatment, Palmer received a proper diagnosis.

"To all the people struggling with this please know you're not alone and that you are still so f*cking fine!" she continued. "MY ACNE AINT NEVER STOPPED ME. But we don't have [to] accept this. Now I can really help KEKE! And I love her so it's ON."

With her skin-care history in mind, Palmer's clearer face is likely a pregnancy side effect caused by a hormonal shift. On Aug. 10, the "Baby, This Is Keke Palmer" host explained that she wanted a quick fix for her acne, going so far as to jokingly offer up her house if it would help plastic surgeons turn her dream into a reality. While this likely isn't the solution Palmer originally had in mind, it is a pretty sweet bonus.
