Kim Petras's Spider Eyes Have us Caught in her Web at the 2023 Brits
Kim Petras has entered her glamorous villain era and we are here for it. The singer arrived at the 2023 Brits wearing a black minidress accessorised with a hood, but it was her makeup that really caught attention. Petras upgraded her eyeliner into a swirl of spider-like strokes around her eyes to create a dark, intricate, and eerie effect. Pulling out three lines on top and below her eyes, extending beyond her brow, ensured all our eyes were on her.
And it seems spookiness was at the heart of Petras's look. In an Instagram story on her page, she can be heard saying, "I love the dolls, the creepier the better", while zooming into her epic eyelashes. The look, created by Kim's make-up artist Gilbert Soliz, is a much darker take on the soft goth trend, compared to her romantic all-red vampy look at the Grammys last week, where she became the first transgender woman to win be awarded for best pop duo/group performance along with Sam Smith. To ensure the goth memo was driven home, Soliz kept her skin porcelain and doll-like, which amplified the eyes further. Anyone else getting Wednesday Addams vibes?
Up for an award for the first time at the Brits, and taking to the stage to perform with Smith during the ceremony, Petras tucked her silky blonde locks under a black headscarf and kept the rest of the look dark and simple with a black Maison Valentino mini dress. While the take on soft goth was the main trend nailed, the other standout was her take on a firm favourite lip trend of Hailey Bieber's: the brownie glossy lip. Petras finished her look with a nod to Y2K, dousing her lips in a deep brown shade and layering up on high-shine gloss.
