Laura Mercier RoseGlow Caviar Stick Eye Shadows Review

Laura Mercier's New Rose Gold Caviar Sticks Got Me Out of My Eyeshadow Rut

Once upon a time, I was a huge eyeshadow person. I'm not talking lots of fun new shades and techniques every day, but I did like to sport a soft bronze-y hue most mornings. But that was before the pandemic. Now, whilst working from home, I apply SPF and call it a day. Or, if I'm feeling really fancy, I'll wear a bit of mascara. As restrictions have eased, I found myself wanting to get out of my makeup rut, so when the new Laura Mercier RoseGlow Caviar Stick Eye Shadows landed on my (work from home) desk, I had no excuse not to give them a whirl.

The Laura Mercier RoseGlow Caviar Stick Eye Shadows (£25) come in six new shades: Bed of Roses, Kiss from a Rose, Forbidden Rose, Wild Rose, Strike a Rose, and Rose Thorn — designed so that all skin tones get the perfect rose gold hue. The product aims to offer easy-to-apply, long-wearing, high-impact colour for up to 12 hours. The sticks also promise to layer easily over or under other eyeshadows (both powder and liquid formulas).

Instantly after trying the product, I knew it would be a doddle to use. The applicator tip made it easy for me to directly apply to my lid and just smudge out a little. The formula is creamy and glides onto my lids effortlessly. As promised, the stick worked well with other shadows, which is something I was dubious about at first. I like to wear each shade individually with a little bit of matte brown shadow underneath, but the shades have been designed to be mixed, too. "Layer your favourite colours together on a bare lid and blend with your fingertips," said makeup artist for Laura Mercier, Emma Sykes. Or, if you want to add even more rose gold, Sykes recommends "mixing your favourite colours together with a cream blusher and tap on the apples of the cheeks."

At first, I didn't think these sticks would be as budge-proof as they promise, but they truly are. I'd even go as far as saying they're waterproof — the more you pack on, the more the formula will stay put.

But all in all, my favourite part of the RoseGlow Caviar Stick Eye Shadows is that they're so easy to use. Swipe a shade over your entire eyelid, blend with your finger, and you're good to go. Of course, if you want to be a pro, you can use a brush and blend with other shades, but the Caviar Sticks are designed to be effortless to use. If you're a lazy eyeshadow wearer, they're absolutely ideal to inject a little bit of fun back into your everyday makeup routine.

The Laura Mercier RoseGlow Caviar Stick Eye Shadows are available now at Space NK and nationwide from 16 Aug.
