Say goodbye to the minimalist aesthetic. Award season is typically when the general public gets to see some of Hollywood's biggest stars experiment with their looks, and the most recent red carpets have made one thing clear: neon hair is back and better than ever.

A few months ago, Billie Eilish dyed her fringe a cherry red colour before ultimately going for a bolder, ombré, black-and-red look at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards. Erika Alexander walked that same carpet with a gorgeous high-bun hairstyle that saw her box braids in a colourful rainbow of bold pink, blue, yellow, and orange shades. Kylie Jenner even showed off a bright pink transformation on TikTok a few days into the new year.

"Bold hair colours are trending because people, in general, are up for having more fun and enjoying new experiences these days," Devin Toth, a hairstylist at Salon SCK, tells POPSUGAR. He's not wrong. If you go on TikTok right now, you'll see countless users lamenting about the days of doing a full glam — bold eyeshadow, big curls, highlights you can see from outer space. It's no coincidence that these can't-miss hair colours are back with a vengeance.

As for the exact shades of neon that are trending, there are a few that you should keep your eye on. "I'm seeing more smoky blues and cherry colas," Toth says. "Brightcopper tones are also becoming really popular right now, especially for highlights."
