The formula is a hydrating clay mask, which sounds like an oxymoron until you find out how it works. The clay is blended with hyaluronic acid, as well as both PHAs and BHAs (poly and beta hydroxy acids), which means that as the clay is absorbing the excess oil in your skin, the mask is also hydrating and smoothing the texture of your skin (PHAs actually help draw moisture into the skin, which is why they're often suitable for sensitive skin types).
