Rhode Pineapple Refresh Cleanser Editor Review

By now, I've gotten used to celebrity beauty brands. Whether it's hair, fragrance, makeup, or skin-care products, it's safe to say I've tested my fair share of all of the above. What I've learned is simple: the product lines are like any other — there are some things I absolutely hate, some things I'm indifferent about, and a rare few that land a permanent spot in my routine. Although it's unusual for me to find multiple hits from one brand, Hailey Bieber's Rhode has managed to be the exception to the rule.

I first fell in love with the brand's Peptide Lip Treatment (I recently lost a tube while on a hike, which led to a solemn vow never to hike again), and you won't catch me leaving the house without first lathering my skin in the Rhode Glazing Milk mixed with a few drops of liquid highlighter. Rhode's products are just good. So, when I learned about the Rhode Pineapple Refresh Cleanser (£28), obviously, I knew I needed to try it out. Spoiler alert: I loved it, my skin loved it, and my friends who raid my medicine cabinet weekly and tried multiple times to steal it also loved it.

  • Rhode's Pineapple Refresh Cleanser starts as a balm and becomes a foamy cleanser when combined with water.
  • The key ingredients include green tea extract to calm irritation, polyglutamic acid (PGA) to moisturise, and pineapple enzyme to exfoliate.
  • It's formulated for all skin types.
  • It comes in one size, 150 ml.
  • It's fragrance-free, vegan, cruelty-free, phthalate-free, and paraben-free.
  • It's also ophthalmologist-tested, as well as dermatologist-tested and developed.

What I Like About the Rhode Pineapple Refresh Cleanser

The first time I tested this product, I was completely surprised. When I squeezed it out of the tube, it came out as a balm, so I was expecting something similar to a cleansing balm. However, once I added a little water (I did things backward the first time I tried it) and started lathering it all over my skin, it became foamy AF. Personally, I love a foamy cleanser, and this one felt extra refreshing.

I don't usually rely on cleansers to make a huge difference in my skin-care routine, so I wasn't expecting dramatic results after using this for a few weeks. However, it doesn't leave my skin feeling tight, stripped, or dry after use, and it also doesn't break me out, which is rare for my sensitive skin. I've been using a lab sample twice a day, and as soon as I get the full-size version in the mail, it's going straight into my medicine cabinet for continued daily use.

How to Use the Rhode Pineapple Refresh Cleanser

This product can be used twice a day, morning and night. The brand recommends applying a dime-size amount onto wet hands, then gently lathering to create a foam. From there, you should wash your face thoroughly and rinse with warm water. If you're wearing full glam or waterproof makeup, the brand suggests starting with an oil-based cleanser, then following with Pineapple Refresh.

I use the cleanser exactly as directed. In the morning, I use a tiny amount of the Pineapple Refresh mixed with water. If I'm wearing makeup, at night I always start out with the Dezi Skin So Balm (you can read my full review here) to take off all of my mascara, eyeshadow, and base makeup. From there, I go in with the Pineapple Refresh. I usually only need one round of lathering, but occasionally I triple cleanse just to make sure my skin is completely residue-free.

What to Consider Before Trying the Rhode Pineapple Refresh Cleanser

Although this product is listed as fragrance-free, it has a very light scent. It's not something that stays on your skin after you wash it off, and I have to deeply inhale to get a good whiff, but it is there. The mild scent doesn't bother me at all, but it's just something to keep in mind if you are extra sensitive to fragrance.
