I Have Sensitive Skin and Swear By This $6 Facial Scrub From Trader Joe's

Until recently, my skin-care routine had always been pretty lackluster. Don't get me wrong, I love a sheet mask as much as the next person, but because I have sensitive skin, I have to keep a closer eye on what products I use on my face — especially when it comes to exfoliators.

Specifically, my skin can't tolerate benzoyl peroxide, a popular ingredient in many acne treatments known to tackle inflammation and blackheads. Sadly, this is not the case for me. My skin has an adverse reaction, causing my face to immediately swell to the size of a balloon and feel as though it's on fire. So you can imagine my excitement (and surprise) when I discovered a benzoyl-peroxide-free facial scrub at Trader Joe's for only $6.

I was a little hesitant to try Trader Joe's Blueberry & Açaí Facial Scrub ($6). A grocery store selling face scrub? For less than $10? Since Trader Joe's has never steered me wrong before, I decided to give it a whirl, and I'm so happy I did.

Made from US-grown blueberries, the Blueberry & Açaí Facial Scrub is an alpha-hydroxy-acids-based exfoliant rich in natural antioxidants to help improve clogged pores and your skin's overall texture and tone. It's basically a spa day wrapped up in a tiny jar: it has a subtle fruity fragrance, thanks to the blueberry seeds and açaí extract, and includes colloidal oatmeal to soothe, shea butter to moisturise, and rosemary and lavender extract to address redness.

I took a liking to the product right away. On the days I use it, I swap it in place of my normal everyday face wash as to not overstimulate my skin. (I would recommend this even if you don't have sensitive skin.) You don't need a lot to get the job done; one finger scoop will do. Trader Joe's doesn't say to, but I dampen my face with a splash of water prior to massageing in the scrub to avoid any roughness or irritation. The jar instructs to apply the scrub in circular motions, avoiding the eyes and lips. I pay extra attention to my chin and forehead since those tend to be my main acne zones.

For best results, Trader Joe's recommends applying the scrub two to three times a week, and I've found that to be accurate. My skin feels smoother, softer, and more refreshed. Not to mention, I'm a sucker for a good exfoliant, and this scrub has rejuvenated my skin unlike any other scrub I've tried. Though, these results weren't immediate — it did take about two weeks until I noticed a difference in my skin. Keep in mind, this isn't a daily scrub, so it could take longer for it to work its magic.

After incorporating this product into my skin-care routine for almost a month, I can honestly say it's one of the best face cleansers I've every bought. And it doesn't have benzoyl peroxide, which is great for people like me who have sensitive skin. The scrub is super cost effective, too. I've used it about eight times and still have half the jar left. That's what you call a win-win.
