Ben Affleck's Quotes on Alcoholism on Today Show March 2019

Ben Affleck Candidly Speaks About His Struggle With Alcoholism: "It's Part of My Life"

Despite how difficult it presumably might be, Ben Affleck is open to talking about his experience with alcoholism. The actor recently spoke about his recovery in a Today show interview with Charlie Hunnam to promote the star-studded action film Triple Frontier. Ben told Hoda Kotb, "I feel like I had a problem, and I really want to address it. I take some pride in that."

Ben entered rehab for the third time in September 2018 to seek treatment for his alcohol addiction. (He had previously sought treatment in 2001 and 2017.) Following his stay, Ben shared a candid post about the "lifelong and difficult struggle" that is addiction. At the time, he wrote, "It is a full-time commitment. I am fighting for myself and my family."

"It's part of my life."

On Today, Ben explained it "doesn't really bother" him to speak publicly about the personal matter. "It's part of my life. It's something that I deal with. It doesn't have to sort of subsume my whole identity and be everything, but it is something that you have to work at," he said. "We encounter these kinds of hurdles, and we have to deal with them."

Thankfully, Ben has been able to rely on his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, who supported him throughout his recovery process. When asked if he still loves her, Ben said, "Of course, she's wonderful. Somebody's the mother of your kids, they're going to be the most important, central person in your life, and that's good." Watch the entire vulnerable interview above.
